This Monday’s meeting will be a presentation, demonstration and workshop by the very talented Craig Wilson.

Following the presentation, members are able to bring along and obtain advice or critique about your banksia. Craig will give you expert advice to progress or improve your bonsai.

There will be have a starter banksia and you will be shown and told what to do with these to start them on their journey to becoming bonsai.

Craig has vast experience drawn up over many years of practical knowledge, utilizing his vast horticultural skills and his ability of working and growing banksia and bonsai. Craig is a regular presenter on 3CR. A number of Craig’s trees have been exhibited in the Canberra National Bonsai and Penjing Collection.

Craig’s large banksia was one of the highlights of the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection when exhibited there.

Craig Wilson will be presenting and demonstrating:

• Banksia growth

• Growing habits of banksias

• Plants characteristics

• Suitable species to use

• Care and maintenance

• Defoliation

• Fertilizing

• Repotting techniques required for the successful growth

• Use of banksia as bonsai

Craig will work on and style a banksia or two explaining the process to create a bonsai. Please bring along a banksia as there may be an opportunity for him to either work on your plant or offer advice.

Craig’s nursery specializes in alpine plants which can be used by us to create accent plants.

This is an opportunity for members to learn from a true bonsai artist and we hope will encourage you to grow a banksia or two as part of your collection.
